Keith Busch was born in Auckland and attended Mt Albert Grammar School. He completed a BA in Geography and Sociology at Canterbury University in 1972 and then attended Wellington Teachers' College. Keith spent 8 years teaching in primary schools in the Wairarapa and then switched to secondary teaching, taking up an appointment at Wairarapa College. In 1987 he became HOD Social Sciences at Makoura College and then moved to the Bay of Plenty in 1992 to a position as HOD Social Sciences at Te Puke High School. He has always had an interest in curriculum development and delivery. For many years he also ran a small desktop publishing company producing newsletters and annual reports. Keith left teaching in 1998 to co-found Sigma Publications Ltd with Wiesje Geldof.
“My aim for Sigma Publications is to produce great educational resources that make lessons easier for teachers and learning more fun for students. I believe there is a real need to improve basic numeracy and literacy skills in New Zealand. To be able to read and write and work with numbers is the key to unlocking all other subjects, interests and vocations – the quality teaching of these skills must be our primary educational goal.”
Vanessa joined Sigma in 2005 as a book text layout specialist but has taken on more responsibility and is now our Sales Manager. Vanessa is the person you will most likely talk to if you phone Sigma and she will reply to your e-mails. You can also talk to Vanessa at English and Maths teachers conferences. She still manages to do layout work, especially on our English books, but also takes time to manage special projects
